Are You Bearing Fruit?

COVID has made life uncomfortable, hasn't it? Can't go out whenever and wherever you want. You can't make a carefree run to the park with the kids. Can't drop them at AWANA and enjoy grocery shopping with one less kiddo. Can't run errands that are limited only by the cargo capacity of your minivan. The pace of life has changed. I see a lot of people lauding this slower pace of life. I was raised by two very "you got time to lean, you got time to clean" parents so I don't really do well with the sitting still concept. I don't even love board games because of all the sitting still and meaninglessness of it. I prefer a mental and physical speed of 60 mph. It is nice to stop and draw in a deep breath but I think there is danger in stagnating in that place. If we're committing solely to a new Netflix binge every day or sitting alone with the swirl of our defeatist emotions about the impact of COVID on our lives, what fruit are we bearing? Our mind is Satan's favorite playground. When we give up and give in.....when we go down without a fight, He wins. I'm not saying we don't all have the absolute right to our emotions. We all have the right to an ugly cry or two right now. (Pro tip: if you have ugly cries in the shower, you can tell the hubs and kids that your red eyes are because you got shampoo in them ;)) But what I am suggesting is that you utilize this time to be the springboard for revival. Yes, we all fantasize about the future and how all this dust will settle miraculously and THEN life will be good again. Well keep the dream alive girlfriend but understand that God has you planted where you are right NOW, in THIS season for a reason. So I ask you again, are you bearing any fruit for God right NOW? Take this time of disconnect to reconnect with God. He has a purpose and a plan for you and He's been patiently waiting for you to give Him your attention. Knowing all the spiritual sounding buzzwords and having your concordance memorized so you can win every sword drill just does not represent a faith that is deeply rooted in God, who is the only sure nourishment for a fruit filled life.
